I was just looking back at our yearbook for the Class of 1988 and noticed that we had pictures of various cars for the senior class and one of the famous auto accessories that I noticed was the name of the car printed on the windshield. Now we didn’t own the nicest cars so having Daytona or Maverick in big white letters across the top of the windshield was apparently some kind of status symbol that made us look cool. At least the windows were tinted so you had to guess who was inside.

Having a netbook

When we were going to school in the 1980′s we had the commodore 64 and the PC was just beginning to enter the market. Todays kids have their netbooks and high end phones that allow them to stay connected and do some amazing research that we had to rely on the local library. It would be interesting to see what we could have accomplished if we had some of the technology that exists today to complete our English Lit paper, or do that American History paper that was the talk across campus during our junior year. As we move forward we get a chance to see our kids and how they are able to capitalize on the technology that they have today and wonder what their kids will have at their fingertips.

exploring careers

I remember in high school going through DECA to explore various admin careers in banking in sales and finance. Mr. Rexus was our instructor and he was able to bring local business people to talk to us and help provide insight into the various positions that would be of interest to many of the students. One of the best memories was competing at the local and state level where we were given various assignments related to our area of interest and then competing with other students from across the area and state.

Possible new venue

some of the feedback that we received regarding our 25 year class year reunion is to look at other locations outside of the state of Washington. This got us looking into various Vegas vacations that can be affordable to all of our classmates. In our review we found some great properties that would facilitate our class and make it affordable for most everyone. The one great thing about doing a class reunion in a more popular location is that we may be able to get more alumni involved as they can also make this part of their summer vacation. So let us know who might be interested and we will take it into consideration.

Running in Bloomsday

It is the first of May and in Spokane that means it is time for Bloomsday. There will be approximately 50K people converging on the city to take place in a Bloomsday to take on the course and see who can make it up Doomsday hill. The events leading up to Bloomsday are something to behold as there are numerous bands, vendors, and activities that are all part of the festivities. You are able to see and purchase the latest men and women’s shoes that are worn by the top athletes in the world. While I am not going to be in the race my wife and kids will be representing our family and their names will be published in the Bloomsday journal after the race with their times. Each runner will receive an timing chip that will automatically keep track of their time and age group so that results are available online that evening. So even if you are not running you should come downtown Spokane and join in all the events.

Getting fit for your upcoming reunion

Ok! So all of those that graduated in 1989 are going to be heading off to their 20 year class reunion in the next few months. It will be a great time to catch up with old friends that you have lost contact and get reconnected with those that you may not have had as much social interaction with while in high school. Everyone will be wanting to look their best and search for the best diet pills available to help in their exercise to get back (or close too) those high school years. The one piece of advice I have for those getting ready for their reunion is to enjoy the short amount of time that you have and take the chance to talk to everyone as you will find that you may have more in common with your peers than you may realize.

Kamiakin gets Props from Kanye west

Dressing like Kanye West just got a boost for all those in Eastern Washington. The Kamiakin Braves letterman jacket was worn by Kanye on a recent BET show touting the latest fashions. Traveling on the road

In my current role I am on the road about 5-7 days out of the month and I have started to look for extended stay hotels when I book my reservations. The reason is that they are typically more economical in the long run and they offer amenities that are close to home. Most of them will have their own kitchen which is nice if you get sick of eating out while on the road and can make breakfast or that late snack much easier. I have also used extended stay hotels while traveling back east and have actually enjoyed these locations much more than a normal hotel stay.

A new digital camera

We just purchased a digital camera for one of our kids to use to capture pics of their friends and activities at various sporting events so that they can create their own scrapbook. What we did not realize is that it came with 10 MB of internal memory which is about enough to hold 5 pictures. So this weekend we will be on the hunt for compact flash memory to help them take more pictures. The compact flash comes in various memory sizes and I would recommend at least 512 MB for any type of camera.
