Technology today

Posted on June 9, 2008 - Filed Under Class of 1988 | Leave a Comment

I have noticed that a flash drive I was given will hold 2 Gigs worth of data. That is quite amazing when you consider that it fits on a key chain. I remember when we were in high school that the floppy disks that we had held up to 512K worth of information and we thought that was a lot. It is amazing to think what our kids are growing up with today and I always wondered what we would have done with some of this amazing technology when we were in school. I know for sure that my history and English reports would have been a lot better and the time to complete would have been much better if we could have saved all that work on a laptop.

Should we video tape the reunion?

Posted on June 7, 2008 - Filed Under Class Reunion | Leave a Comment

As we gear up for our reunion one of the thoughts was to video tape parts of the different events so that those that could not be in attendance might have a chance to see what took place. I have invested in a digital camcorder to take some footage and upgraded the memory in my laptop since the editing and storage of the footage will take up quite a bit of space. We will then probably load the videos up on one of the video sharing sites so that we do not overload our blog. So if you are interested in helping to tape some footage for the Kamiakin Class of 1988 reunion please let me know so that we can coordinate the various files.

One very simple and easy thing to do is slow down your pace and do not let your activities control or dictate your life and your well being. Many companies are realizing the impact that stress has on workers productivity and offer tips and guidance to help their employees. Many are placing gyms within work place or offering special incentives on equipment like ellipticals that are a great way to exercise with little stress on the joints. If you can implement some simple steps to avoid stress you will be more open to people and more productive in your job. You will also have a better relationship with your spouse or family.

The road to Hana

Posted on May 23, 2008 - Filed Under advertising | Leave a Comment

Maui is actually an island formed by two volcanoes and looks something like a figure eight. The eastern half is the younger and larger part of the island with Mount Haleakala as it’s volcano. This side of Maui is both wetter and drier than the western side of the island. It is wetter on the Northern shore and drier on the Southern shore. The North side of the island is not the tourist section, but the road to Hana is famous. I would definitely consult the local travel guide for suggestions on times and modes of transportation for your trip. This is a tropical drive that you need to take at least once. With all the rain you get on this part of the island, you will see numerous waterfalls and will be on a road that has over 500 hairpin turns and 50 one lane bridges. The trip is 52 miles long, but will take from 2 to 4 hours to make on highway 360 (Hana Highway).

20 year reunion Saturday events

Posted on May 1, 2008 - Filed Under Class Reunion | Leave a Comment

Kamiakin Class of 1988 we have some updates on Saturdays events. First, we have secured a slot at Sun Willows golf course starting at 10 AM for our golf tourny. Which by the way I spoke to Craig Lawrences younger brother who is at the pro shop to help set us up. We will need to start getting a head count on all those that are interested in playing so that we can let them know.

Also on Saturday Shawna Morris (McGetrick) has offered to coordinate an afternoon picnic for those that do not wish to take part in the golf tournament. And Kristen Lurch has presented the idea of our class working on a habitat for humanity housing project. So there are some things that all of us can do and be a part of.

There is also the chance that we will be taking a tour of Kamiakin either Friday or Saturday for those that are interested to walk down memory lane and for some of you to actually go onto campus without fear of being called to the principles office. So comment back or shoot us an email at wsugrad92 at comcast dot net. ( Sorry had to do this to prevent a bunch of spam, and no Jake, not the stuff you eat)

Posted on May 1, 2008 - Filed Under advertising | Leave a Comment

There are many Americans that have a need for health insurance. With the election year starting to take shape for 2008 one of the main focuses will be inexpensive health insurance for all Americans. The Medicare Part D plans have been successful and the trend is that more people who are eligible are signing up. For those under 65 finding affordable insurance is always a constant battle. Whether you are insured through work or have to find insurance on your own the choices and terminology can be quite intimidating. North Carolina health insurance companies are offering various plans tailored to different income levels to offer affordable insurance for their state residents. By next year I am sure that we will have a clear picture of what the next President is going to do to provide health insurance for all Americans

Finding ways to loose weight

Many Americans are battling with their weight in large part due to their diet. There are many solutions that claim to give you success without having to change your diet or lifestyle. Early on the craze around ephedra heated up and everyone thought that this was going to be the miracle diet drug. It was even used by some athletes to help enhance their performance. One of it’s main mechanism of action is to speed up your metabolism, but it was later found that it increased heart risks. These and other supplements like generic Phentermine have been touted as a ways to help boost your metabolism to help you shed those unwanted pounds.

Many will make promises to help you loose weight, but everyone has to realize that there is no magic pill and that with proper diet and exercise and the help of a diet supplement it is a good bet that you will be able to loose the weight and keep it off. As we get older that process slows down and with increasing those levels it will help your body metabolize and clear those carbs and sugars more effectively.

Facial blemishes

Remember back in high school one of the most dreaded facial blemishes you could get was the pimple. No matter what you did you could never cover it up and to you it seemed like it was the biggest and most noticeable thing in school. It seems today that acne treatments are much more available thanks the internet. Beside when you have a singer like Jessica Simpson on your ads showing how it cured her acne . I do wonder if they work as well as they claim and what cure is there for a pimple that you get the day of Prom?

When we were younger

Posted on April 19, 2008 - Filed Under advertising | Leave a Comment

I remember as a young kid playing outside for hours with friends and only coming home for dinner. We could spend hours in the summer using a magnifying glass to see what sticks we could try and catch on fire or carve our initials in a tree. Now a days kids have so many options like video games, computers that keep them inside it can lead to lack of exercise. I now see my kids coming to the age where they are finally realizing that exploring the great outdoors can lead to endless possibilities.

Exercise 30 minutes a day

Posted on April 11, 2008 - Filed Under Blogging | Leave a Comment

Recent literature has come out showing that even moderate exercise is beneficial. It has always been the thought that you needed to exercise at least one hour a day and need to get your heart rate up above your target rate to have any health benefits. Many people purchased exercise equipment to have at their homes to avoid having to go to the gym and provide a more convenient way to get in shape. Now the research is showing that even 30 minutes a day can have beneficial health benefits even when broken up in smaller chunks. So next time you head to the mall look for the furthest parking spot and give your heart and body something good to achieve.

Improving your looks

Posted on April 10, 2008 - Filed Under advertising | Leave a Comment

Getting nose work done whether it is medically necessary or cosmetic, here are few questions that you can ask your Dr.:

  1. Are the desired results I described realistic?
  2. Where is the surgery performed? How long will the procedure take?
  3. What kind of anesthesia is used?
  4. How much does it cost?
  5. What is your experience in performing this procedure? (How long has he/she performed this procedure, and how many he/she has performed in the past year?)
  6. What percentage of patients have had significant complications? (The physician should disclose this information to you.

There are many options to help improve your looks and finding the best anti wrinkle cream online is much easier. Plus you can research your options and really understand what the products have to offer and which ones to stay away from.
