Dolphin Intelligence

Just how smart is a dolphin? It’s believed that a dolphin actually uses about 90 percent of their brain; while humans are around 10 percent. A dolphin’s brain is much smaller than a human’s brain, but they have found ways to use more of thier brain capactiy than we have. Dolphins are animals that humans can train really well. They are trained dolphins that entertain people at places like SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida and they are dolphins that get used for rescue purposes and to find things located deep at sea. Man’s ability to train the dolphin has allowed us to do more things in the oceans than we could have ever did without them. They have become one of the most useful animals for man and they help us complete tasks daily that we couldn’t get done without them or as effective with them. We are still learning about dolphins, but it seems like the more we learn, the more we realize what these amazing animals are able to accomplish each day. We have identified 3 unique noises they make under water and one of these noises is used to communicate with other dolphins. It seems a certain pitch of sound can call one specific dolphin and it works much like the way we have names. The way someone would call you by name is the way these dolphins use unique sounds to get in touch with each other. This is just a small piece of all the amazing things being done with dolphins today. I look forward to the future of man’s relationship to dolphins. The sky is certainly the limit in discovering all the ways dolphins can benefit man. I think we will have to also change the way we do things in the future to inusre the health and safety of these animals in our climate changing environment.
